Jim Michalak | Founder & President

Jim Michalak founded Plaza Advisors in 2006 following a nine-year tenure at Cushman & Wakefield in Tampa where he assisted in the formation of the retail investment Capital Market group for the state of Florida. Mr. Michalak has more than 30 years of commercial real estate experience and has specialized in the disposition of shopping centers for the past 25 years. He has completed more than 225 Florida disposition assignments with an aggregate value of nearly $3 billion.

Mr. Michalak earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from the Haworth College of Business at Western Michigan University. He holds a Florida Real Estate Broker’s License and has been an active member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) since 1991. Additionally, Mr. Michalak has contributed a significant amount of time in various ICSC roles. Jim served as the Chairman of the ICSC West Florida Idea Exchange as well as orchestrating the Capital Markets session of the annual Florida Conference for four consecutive years.

Jeff Berkezchuk | VP, Senior Associate

Jeff Berkezchuk entered the real estate industry in 2013, bringing more than nine years of retail-specific real estate experience to his role at Plaza Advisors. Prior to joining the team, Jeff excelled as a commercial real estate appraiser at Colliers International specializing in multi-tenant retail assets. During this time, he was the lead retail appraiser in Florida and appraised over 600 assets throughout the state, including various grocery-anchored, power-anchored, and retail strip centers. His portfolio also includes a number of regional shopping malls, mixed-use properties, and single-tenant triple net assets. Jeff also formerly worked for Price Waterhouse Coopers (PwC).

Mr. Berkezchuk holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Finance from the University of Central Florida. Additionally, he is actively involved in the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). In his spare time, Jeff is an avid sports fan and always supports his alma mater and Philly sports teams. He also enjoys golfing and spending time with his fiancé and their collie.
